Description: | Lucy continues her story of how the eBario project got started and brought the internet, telephones and better telecommunications to Bario. In this recording, Lucy explains how they supported IT at the Secondary School in Bario, SMK Bario, by starting a rice farm. The children got to learn how to farm plus any rice could be sold and used to support their needs, such as buying floppy disks. She also explains that to support the growing needs of the people in Bario to use computers, the eBario project developed a second initiative: the eCommunity telecentre in Bario. She explains how the community held a number of meetings to decide on the right location for the telecentre and eventually decided to set up the telecentre in one of the shop fronts that had been built by the Baram District Council. Lucy also explains that the success of the eBario project has led to Bario becoming famous and being visited by many important people. She also explains that the project has won a number of awards. Finally, Lucy briefly talks about the how the project introduced the first telephone line in Bario and the difficulty of transporting in the satellite dish. The beginning of the story is in Part 1 (BAR21082014CH_05) and the story continues again in Part 3 (BAR21082014CH_07). The following equipment was used: Zoom H4N, lavallier mic, wind gag, Canon EOS 60D, Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Lens. The recording is in mono and wav format. | |
