Description:Translation (Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai & Keita Kurabe) I will now tell the story called “The Robbers Who Entered a Widow's House.” Long ago, there was a village plagued by ruthless robbers. These robbers were fierce, and whenever they broke into a home, they killed the people inside and stole all their belongings. In that village lived a wealthy widow. One day, when the robbers came to her house, the widow was still sitting by the fireplace, keeping warm. So the robbers hid beneath the house, waiting for her to go to bed. Then, one of the robbers accidentally let out a loud fart. Hearing the sound, the widow realized that the robbers were right under her house. Then, although she was terrified, she pretended not to be afraid and shouted in a loud voice. “Mr. Frame of the fireplace, was it you who farted? Or was it you, bundle of gold?” When they heard this, the robbers nearly burst out laughing, but they tried to hold it in and stayed quiet. When the widow asked again, “Mr. Frame of the fireplace, was it you who farted? Or was it you, bundle of gold?” the robbers could no longer contain themselves, and with a roar of laughter, they fled from the house. By her clever words, the widow was able to save her life.
