Description: Translation (Rita Seng Mai) There are not many mountains to the west of Machyang Baw. There is only a large field there called the Nau Hkai Lang Gau field. We can see mountains located to the east of Machyang Baw town. There is the Hpaw Ja Mountain. It was green and had lots of trees in the past, but now it is bare. After a mile from the town, there are only mountains. There is the Gawja Mountain, about a mile from the town. It is a mountain where oriental pied hornbills live. Now, it has become an old, overgrown field. This is the lower Gawja Mountain. The one we see near the Mali Hka River is the lower Gawja Mountain. There is the higher Gawja Mountain farther from here. The Malang Mountain is higher than those mountains. It is three thousand three hundred feet above sea level. During the colonial period, before we had telegraphs or telephones, we communicated using things like mirrors from one mountain to another. We did this on the mountains such as Ndawn Mountain and Gawli Mountain. The Kachin Baptist Convention also built a cross on that mountain as a memorial to honor Rev. N-kawk Yaw's Golden Jubilee. Near that cross, the Burmese government has built a communication tower. That mountain is the Malang Mountain. There is Marang Tang Mountain in the upper part of the river. We clear the fields to grow paddy in Machyang Baw, but the soil is mixed with stones. Animals such as ibex and bears live there.
