Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a man who was easily scared. He went to his wife's house with her. On their way, they encountered a deer. Then the wife killed it. He said to her, "Let's just say I caught this deer. If you don't say that I caught it, I won't go to your parents' house. I will just return home." She said, "Okay. Let's say you caught it." They carried the deer and went to her parents' house. When they arrived there, the wife said to her parents, "Here, this is the deer your son-in-law caught on our way." A boar usually came to the parents' field. They said, "The boar usually comes to our field. Our son-in-law knows how to catch it, doesn't he?" He said, "Yes, I know how to catch it. I will catch it." They said to him, "That's great. Catch it." That night, he went to the field and stayed in a hut. When the boar came close to the field, he was so scared that he trembled a lot. The hut didn't seem strong enough, and it fell down. The boar got startled and ran away, then got stuck in the marsh. He went back home and said, "I caught the boar." When they went to the field to check on the boar, they saw that it was at the edge of the field, stuck in the marsh. Then they took it home. People heard about that news. At that time, there was a tiger that usually attacked the villagers. They told him, "Please catch the tiger." He agreed, "Okay, I will catch it." Actually, he was scared, but he acted brave. He made small bamboo strips while sitting in a stand of bamboo. The tiger approached him and tried to catch him with its tail. He quickly grabbed its tail and tied it tightly to the bamboo. And he shouted, "I caught the tiger! Come!" The villagers saw that he tied the tiger to the bamboo. Later, a war broke out in their village. The chief said to him, "You are such a brave and strong man. Help us fight in the war." He thought, "How should I do?" Then he sat in a tree along the path of their enemies. When a troop of enemies came near, he was so scared that he cried out loud. The enemies heard the sound and said, "They might have a large force of men. We can even hear someone in the trees." Then they just turned back. In the end, the man won the war in that way. This is the story about a cowardly man that our elders used to tell.
