| Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a domestic cat and a wild cat. The domestic cat was Ma Hka (the seventh male child), and the wild cat was Ma Tang (the fifth male child). They lived in the forest. One day, they went hunting. They caught a prey. They caught it near the field. Humans were cooking food there. The two cats saw the smoke and the people cooking, and they also wanted to cook their prey. They discussed, "Let's grill this and eat." The wild cat said, "My brother cat, I will wait for you here. Go get some fire." The domestic cat said, "Okay. I will go get some." Then he went to the widow. At that time, the widow was eating sticky rice. The domestic cat came there and said, "Grandma, I came to ask for some fire. We caught a bird and wanted to grill it so it would taste better. Eating it raw is not very good." The widow said, "Okay. You can take some. How do you eat your food?" The cat said, "We eat anything we catch raw." She asked him, "What do you usually hunt?" He answered, "We catch mice that eat grains and seeds near the edge of the field. We eat them raw." She thought, "This cat catches the mice that destroy my field. I should keep him with me." She wanted to kill the mice that destroyed her plants. She began to think of a way to keep the cat with her. Then she offered the sticky rice to the cat and said, "Eat this." It was hard for the cat to chew because the rice was sticky. After that, the widow gave him some dried meat to eat. The wild cat waited for his brother, but the domestic cat did not return even after a long time. The domestic cat found the food delicious and felt comfortable at the widow's house, so he stayed there. On the other hand, the wild cat waited for his brother, but since he did not return, he ate the mouse they had caught raw. Later, they got angry at each other. The wild cat said to the domestic cat, "You are not my brother anymore! You are just a stranger to me! I abandon you! You and I will be enemies from now on. We can't be together anymore. I will catch you once you step outside!" Then the domestic cat said, "I won't go outside the house! I will stay inside." The wild cat said, "But you must go outside to poop. I will catch you then!" The domestic cat replied, "I don't need to go outside. I will do it in the ash." Till today, the domestic cat poops only in the ash because he is afraid of his brother, the wild cat. Actually, the domestic cat once lived in the forest as a wild animal. But he liked the sticky rice and dried meat the widow gave him, so he stayed in her house. That is what our elders told us.
