Description:		Translation (Rita Seng Mai) I have heard our elders teach us through stories that a person became successful and rich because he listened to his parents. Once upon a time, there was a father and a son. One day, the son said, "Dad, I will go to trade goods." He asked permission from his father and left the house to do business. Before he left, he asked his father, "Dad, do you have anything to say to me?" The father said to his son, "Every time you cook rice, keep the rice crust and bring it back to me. I am okay even if I don't get any money. Just save the rice crust for me from the day you leave and start cooking." The son followed his father's instructions and kept the rice crust, wrapping it up for him from the day he left home. He traded goods and made a good profit. Then he went back home. In the past, the roads were rough, and he had to cross rivers. On his way back home, there was heavy rain, and the river flooded. Therefore, he couldn't cross it. He ate all the rations he had taken with him. He thought, "How will I survive now? What will I eat? I am going to die. I have nothing to eat." He felt depressed. Then he thought, "I will eat this rice crust. Even if Dad gets angry or scolds me, I can't help it now. I will just eat the rice crust I saved for him." The rice crust was hard, so it didn't go stale. He waited for the water level to go down while surviving on only that rice crust. He went back home when the water level went down. When he arrived home, he said, "Dad, I am home. I did something that disobeyed your words. Something unexpected happened on my way back. The river flooded, and I had to stay on the other side for many days. So I ended up eating the rice crust you told me to save for you. I could bring back only these goods. I am sorry I couldn't bring the rice crust you asked for." The father said, "Don't worry, my son. I asked you to bring back the rice crust because I was worried you might throw it away without thinking. I wanted you to keep it just in case you faced hardship and had nothing to eat, so you could eat it then. That's why I asked you to keep the rice crust for me." Thanks to his father's wisdom, the son successfully traded goods and returned home. This story teaches us how important it is to follow the advice and instructions of our parents or relatives when we travel.
