| Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The title is 'Throw Water onto the Taro Leaf.' Once upon a time, there was a man. He had some children. Other parents made their children work from a young age. But the man thought, "When the children grow up, they will surely learn how to work." So he never made them work. The children didn't even clean themselves. Even when he changed his children's clothes, they tried to unbutton and tear them. He simply thought, "They will dress neatly and tidy when they grow up. They will learn how to work as well. Let them live as they want now." The children didn't work at all. As time passed, the children grew up and became adults. The man also grew old. He thought, "I am tired of working because I am old now. My children have also become adults. They are now the right age to work. Now it's time for them to take care of us. I must not let them live like this anymore. They should work and look after us." He called his children and said to them, "We don't make you work and let you live comfortably. We take care of you without making you work every day. Now we are getting old, so you should work and look after us." However, his children didn't want to work anymore because they had been living like rich people. When he asked them to do some work, they went off somewhere and wasted their time talking. They didn't work at all. Whatever task they were asked to do, they couldn't complete. When they came back home at night without finishing any work, their father beat them. But they were already in the habit of living like rich people. Then the other people were shocked to see the way they taught their children. They gossiped, "They didn't make their children work when they were young. Now they panic! The children have already grown up, so it is difficult to change them now. The children must feel stressed, too. It's the parents' fault. They made them like that. How can they beat them now? We can't stand seeing them like that." Then they went to the parents and said, "Why is your family always fighting and arguing all the time?" The father said, "We are depressed because our children don't want to do whatever we ask them to do." They said to him, "Mister, throw water onto the taro leaf." Then he fetched some water and threw it onto the taro leaf, but the water just rolled off. He kept doing it, but the water still rolled off. The leaf was completely dry. Then they said to him, "Look at that leaf. That taro leaf can't be wet. In the same way, your children can't be taught to work because you didn't make them work when they were young. It's already too late to teach them to work." The man also reflected and said, "We didn't know how to raise our children. That's why they became like this. Don't be like us. Teach your children and let them work as much as they can when they are young. Let's teach our children." This is the end of the story.
