| Description: | Mr. Ngwasiyeh describes the various alternative foods they had to eat and harvest, such as atheeh, siwae, dagaelay, and muhkhubili. He mainly talks about the harvesting of atheeh (tree fern). He explains that atheeh can be harvested before the fronds emerge or when it’s still small. To harvest atheeh, two layers must be peeled to access the pith, which is then smashed. The pith is left in an open area to allow rain to wash away the bitter liquids it contains. After three to four weeks, it may be fermented. Atheeh can be consumed by cooking, frying, or roasting. (Original file name: Lisu_Ngwasiyeh_Shidi_Atheeh). Language as given: | |
