(Note: Marriage or relationship with a brother or sister would be incestuous, so they should not hear this type of song from him.) 2’48” Line 4: This line means that no others should hear the song. It is the case that those who are singing these songs are in the jungle, they don’t want others to listen to it. 3’42” Line 5: By chance if any other girls hear the song, let them not curse me. This is because he is singing for one particular girl. 4’18” Line 6: He is praising the long knife (dao), comparing his personal strength to the dao. 4’55” Line 7: In this line he is talking about the dao, how he will cut with it. 5’18” Line 8: This is about comparing himself to the lance or spear paq. 5’52” Line 9: This line is about how the paq ‘lance’ is used to hunt animals. 6’20” Line 10: This line is about praising himself, that he is a man. (Note: The last few lines can be interpreted as comparing the singer’s sexual potency to that of the dao and the paq). 6’45” Line 11: This line means that girls are competing to get married with him, so strong and manly is he. 7’34” Line 12: This line means that in the river they make some dam, and this will catch the fish. This is perhaps a simile about how he would catch a girl.
