| Description: | Recorded for Kalkaringi Community Education Centre (primary and middle school) Gurindji program organised by DAC (Diwurruwurru-jaru Aboriginal Corporation). Ronnie Wave Hill tells of the first contact with Europeans. At some point during the masscres, white men received a notice from Darwin or Katherine instructing them not to kill Aboriginal people any more. They kidnapped a boy of about ten years of age and taught him English. Then they returned to Gurindji country and approached two men who were fishing at a waterhole. Using the boy to communicated they said that they didn't want to kill people any more and that they would give them food and tobacco. The two men followed the European party to their camp and discovered European food and articles. The two men agreed to round up a sizeable number of their people and to bring them to a certain place at the river in one month's time. They were agreed and the two men did as discussed, spreading the word through Mutpurra, Gurindji and other groups living together at the time. | |
