Description: | Documentation of a bush trip to Malkirr and surroundings with Joy Williams Malwagag, Mary Murndanymarri and Margaret Marrangku. Malkirr is on the eastern side of Croker Island. At Malkirr Joy Williams calls first the coastal place names from South to North. She goes on to tell stories from the past when people visited the area on seasonal hunting and gathering trips. During the trip the informants also identify 'winyjurlbu', a black plum species. At the end they go oyster cracking and find a 'warrkbunyu', which is the Iwaidja name for spikey chiton (Acanthopleura spinosa - Chitonidae) and mangrove slug (Onchidium sp. - Onchidiidae). | |
