| Description: | Pak Marten Pangau watches a video which depicts the process of making 'sopi', a liquor distilled from palm sugar sap. This liquid is boiled in a large drum before it evaporates and travels through 70 metres of bamboo and plastic tubing. It then condenses again as alcohol which is collected in a large container. This liquid is often drunk at large social gatherings. Video was recorded with a Canon Legria HF R606. The MTS format has been converted to MP4 using Handbrake. Audio was recorded with a Zoom Q8 in .WAV format with a Rode lavalier microphone. The original stereo .WAV file has been converted to mono using Audacity. This bundle includes an ELAN project (.eaf) file with baseline transcription, word-level transcription, and free translation in English. The information in this .eaf file is intended as a preliminary analysis of the data. Additional analysis is currently ongoing with the aim of producing a more detailed description of the phonology, morphology, and syntax. | |
