Description: This bundle contains seven literacy books in the Fanbyak language. These are edited versions of some of the narratives that have been recorded. The following is a description of the different books: LM_BK1_1: A story about the wunu 'foolish' people from Nolili who found a big rock that they wanted to carry to their village to use as a ceremonial platform for which to kill pigs from. The stone was very big so they wove ropes and some stood under it and some stood above it. The ones who were under it were crushed by the rock as it fell. the survivors went to the creek where they saw dragon plums floating in the water, but it was only the reflection of the stinkwood fruit. They dived one after another and hit their heads on a rock and died. Only one was left who marked how many had died on a stone. Finally The big rock from the first part of the story was washed down the creek and into the sea at estuary of Tokor creek." LM_IR1_2: Imkon recounts the time she learned how to catch prawns in the creek. She was afraid of eels. LM_WS1_2: Willie tells the story of five brothers who try and win the hearts of two beautiful sisters. Each brother in turn tries different love magic to win their hearts but don't succeed, until the last brother, who had yaws makes a jew's harp plays for the women. he takes the two women back home. His brothers discover that he has the two women in his house and are jealous and plot to kill him. when they do his two wives commit suicide. LM_LM1_1: Lina tells the story of three brothers and their grandmother. The grandsons find a new species of banana and gave them to their grandmother to roast while they went out hunting. they returned and thought that their grandmother had eaten all the bananas. They were angry and went away and made a golem from a tree trunk which kills their grandmother and they both turn into rocks in the sea. The name of the banana translates as 'the killing of the old woman'. LM_LM1_3: Lina tells the story of a boy finding a magic vicory leaf growing out of the head of a squirrelfish. He takes it home and plants it but his father breaks it, the boy slowly sinks into the ground and dies. The story has an accompanied string figure whihc is not included here. LM_SJ1_21: Saksak talks about his family history and how they originated in Fanbyak to how they came to live in Faramsu LM_SJ1_9: Saksak tells the story about a Lisepsep spirit from the area of Fanbak who stole a thirsty child and took him to the creek to drink until he was full. The Lisepsep then ate him. The boy's father and the rest of the village then killed the Lisepsep. File Description: This bundle consists of seven PDFs in the Fanbyak language.
