Description: | Antonina Kazarova tells a little anecdote about how she and a friend had gone to pick berries two years ago and had had to cross a stream to get to the berry patches. On the way out they crossed the stream at a point where it was practically dry, but on the way back they took a different route and had to cross it at a point where it was so deep that the water came up to AVK's chin. This was recorded in Antonina Kazarova's living room. AVK had told the same anecdote a few days earlier, but we had decided not to archive that, since it was rather hesitant. This time round AVK had prepared herself for the recording and had written out her story ahead of time, looking up words she didn't know. She didn't read off what she had written, though, but told it fairly freely – only in the very beginning did she look down at her notes (she'd put her notebook down on the floor). Galina Kljueva sat next to her and asked a question or two in Negidal to make it more lively and natural. Recorded with a Marantz PMD660 solid state recorder and an AKG 1000 S microphone, in mono, and a Panasonic HC-V707EG-K video camera on a little tripod on a stool set up in the middle of the room and zoomed in on AVK and GIKlju. Recorded, transcribed, and glossed by Brigitte Pakendorf. Transcription checked and Russian translation provided by Antonina Kazarova. Glossing by Brigitte Pakendorf, and questions clarified with Antonina Kazarova. // The original .mts video was converted to .mp4 with Handbrake and then trimmed with Avidemux to cut off a coughing fit in the beginning. From this trimmed .mp4 file the .wav file was extracted for transcription in ELAN; in addition, we are depositing the original .wav file from the Marantz, since that has a better quality. // Антонина Васильевна Казарова рассказывает про то, как они с подругой неуспешно ходили за голубикой и должны были перейти вброд глубокую протоку.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
