Description: | Daria Nadeina shows four birchbark vessels, explains how they are made and what they are used for. This was recorded in the living room of Daria Nadeina's house. The recording was planned – while photographing drying fish skins one day BP noticed birch bark vessels in a corner and had asked Daria Nadeina to tell about their uses in Negidal. Recorded with a Marantz PMD660 solid state recorder and an AKG 1000 S microphone, in mono, and a Panasonic HC-V707EG-K video camera which BP held in her hand in order to be able to frame Daria Nadeina on the sofa holding up the vessels. Recorded, transcribed, and glossed by Brigitte Pakendorf. Transcription checked and Russian translation provided by Daria Nadeina. Glossed by Brigitte Pakendorf, questions clarified with Daria Nadeina. // The original .mts video was converted to .mp4 with Handbrake and then trimmed with Avidemux to cut off the introductory speech (with discussion of correct date) by BP in beginning. From this trimmed .mp4 file the .wav file was extracted for transcription in ELAN; in addition, we are depositing the original .wav file from the Marantz, since that has a better quality. Furthermore, we are depositing 10 photos of the vessels, plus a transcribed audio file recorded during clarification of the transcription and glosses, in which DIN explains how and why they weigh down the collected birchbark. // Дарья Ивановна Надеина показывает берестяную посуду и объясняет, как ее делают и для чего используют.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
