Description: | Aleksandra Truba tells about her grandmother, who sewed and embroidered beautifully. Some photos of the old embroidery patterns made by the grandmother are archived as well in this session, together with a description of the photos. This was recorded in Antonina Kazarova's living room. Aleksandra Truba, who now lives in Polina Osipenko village, had come to Vladimirovka that morning, and had written out a little text about her grandmother in Russian before coming over to Kazarova's house. When told that the point was to record Negidal speech for the archive, she went ahead and started telling what she wanted to say in Negidal, without further preparation. Antonina Kazarova sat opposite her (not visible on the video) and occasionally prompted her with a word. Unfortunately, the recording wasn't entirely planned – it wasn't clear until that morning that Truba would be coming –so the battery of the video camera was running low and the recording had to be broken off after ~20 minutes. Recorded by Brigitte Pakendorf with a Marantz PMD660 solid state recorder and an AKG 1000 S microphone, in mono, and a Panasonic HC-V707EG-K video camera on a little tripod on a stool set up in the middle of the room and zoomed in on Aleksandra Truba. About 40 seconds were trimmed off the beginning and end of the video with Avidemux, and the audio file extracted from this trimmed video was used for alignment in ELAN. The original sound file from the Marantz (grandmother_AET_280217.WAV) is archived as well, since the quality is better. Transcribed by Brigitte Pakendorf, transcription checked and Russian translation provided by Aleksandra Truba, glossed by Brigitte Pakendorf. Questions clarified with Aleksandra Truba and Antonina Kazarova. // Александра Егоровна Труба рассказывает про свою бабушку, которая прекрасно шила и вышивала.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
Aleksandra Truba worked as a nurse and doctor's assistant. She spent two years in Ukraine with her Ukrainian husband when her children were small. Her father was an Evenk, so that she uses quite a lot of Evenki words.
