Description: | This tale belongs to the genre called "circular tales" by Cincius (1982). It is a shorter version than that published in Cincius (1982:103-105), which was read by Daria Nadeina in 2005 (see Session "DIN_chevkan_tale"). The tale consists of a dialogue between a “master” and a lazy bird that comes up with all sorts of excuses as to why it cannot help; in the end, the bird is thumped over the head, plucked, stuck on a spit, fried, eaten, excreted, only to fly off again. The second half is characterized by the large number of onomatopoetic words it contains. The tale was recorded on 20.08.2006 by Nina Sumbatova and Elena Kalinina. A first transcription and translation were done by Nina Sumbatova and Daria Nadeina. The recording was time-aligned in ELAN and re-transcribed by Brigitte Pakendorf and Galina Kandakova, who also provided the Russian translation; Brigitte Pakendorf glossed the text and clarified questions with Galina Kandakova. // Анна Порфирьевна Надеина рассказывает сказку-диалог про ленивую птичку, которая придумывает всякие причины, почему она не может работать кузнечными мехами. В итоге, ее ударяют по голове, выщипывают, жарят, и едят - а в конце она опять взлетает. Такую же сказку опубликовала В.И. Цинциус в книге "Негидальский язык. Исследования и материалы"; опубликованную версию читала Дарья Ивановна Надениа в 2005-м году (см. запись " Chevkan // Чевкан ").
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
