Description:This session was a little helter skelter. p027 a came a lot earlier than expected and agreed upon, after ditching me two times before. He seems to be quite a busy man. Thus the process of recharging of he camera batteries was not as far as I would have liked. The session was also hampered by the wind that started to build up around noon. And thirdly, the timing of starting the session was not really ideal, right after the midday meal, when everybody is sommanbulent, is usually never a good time to record. Fourthly, I expected the two to talk about twenty minutes each, because when p002 told me their story in French before that is how long it approximately took. This is also how this session came to be, p002 had told me about their 'misadventures' and the reintegration of p002 back into the family, and I thought this would be nice to record in Nalu. The two went off and took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to tell the whole story. Thus I had to change the tape once, the battery once, and the sd card in the Marantz once. The interruptions do not seem to have disturbed their storytelling flow. We did the filming in p002's porch to hide from the wind. Thus every now and then people move around their back to access the house. Namely, p002's younger brother, his wife, and his brother's wife. The session is also interrupted by p002's brother in law coming to greet. Greetings can get quite extensive and while I let it be in the beginning, I am now trying to suppress it as much as possible in situations where the goal of the recording is a different one. They just take away battery time and recording space and and they are really disruptive. Some greetings are necessary, however, and p002 could not avoid greeting his brother in law. During the recording one can also witness p002 doing gestures to shoo people off, so that they do not come and start greeting. I used the same recording set-up as during the other audio-visual recordings one AT8022 to the camera and one to the Marantz. It is really difficult to set the recording levels right, even when you do sound checks. During the first part, namely p002's story the Marantz was a little low. I anticipated p002 speaking as loud as he usually does, but he surprised me this time and spoke quietly most of the time, at times really low, and he never became quite loud. I augmented the input level a little for p027's section. The video recording can be found on tvideo 005 and tvideo 003 right after the recordings from the festivities. I had to use the rest of that tape, as I ran out of tapes. This time I made them take off the caps and p002 the glasses. When they took of their hats they looked really strange to me and I do not think I will do it again. The people here run around with hats the whole time and that is how they look.
