Bibliographic Citation: | Lunda, Petrus, Sopune, Pitu (Ebbe), Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Ichal, Toka; 2016-07-18; Genre: Custom/cursing/dowry. Bapak Lunda recorded 18 July -16 by Pitu Sopune (Ebbe), his neighbour, in kampong Mata mere. In this recording Lunda tells how to punish people, 'huku ata', more specifically family members on the 'weta' side, the wife-takers, if they forget you or their obligations. The context is adat belis, the continous dowry system, but the concern is also non-materialistic. The first prayer or curse invokes the ancestors, Hina hama pu mori, and asks them to sharpen their machetes and bamboos to go terrorise the negligent person(s), even "kill them" for a night and a day". This serves as a reminder, and then it does not take long before the victim repents. The second prayer asks the ancestors to forgive the victim and heal him/her again. The reconciliation, same as in the Liba ritual, is uttered with the couplet, "Mai kita téki palu kaju langa palu dhali". Recorded by Pitu with the HN1 Zoom recorder and the AT2020 microphone. Transcribed by Toka Ichal as an assignment of the FEL supported project to teach ELAN to Palu'e youth, practicing directly on yet unannotated recordings. Edited, and partly translated, by SD.; digital wav file recorded at 48 khz/24 bit, eaf file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/70017. | |
