Title:SD1-274
Bibliographic Citation:Weka Du'a, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Ratu, Hilarius; 2015-06-11; Genre: Medicine/huru: This is Weka Dhu'ane's 'huru pou' ("huru boat") and 'huru sau' ("huru dog"). Recorded with the H4N directly in the home of lakimosa Sundu in the evening 11 June -15, and with Sundu, whose voice is also heard (mine, SD, too). 'Huru pou' is applied to ear ache, and I saw it in practise the day before (see photos and clips of Weka and Poke, who performs 'baga'). 'Huru pou' uses pig fat, the stored, smoked one that seems rather sterile (no worms after several months, or years they say). And 'koja' and 'haja' tree, scraped from under the bark. She uses her saliva only – no chewed areca nut and piper betel – and the materials are all put behind and around the ear, and cheek, after another. Weka does not make 'huru' prohibitions-curses. She only cures according to the symptoms. And sometimes Poke Dhu'ane helps her with 'bhaga', to find out what or whose 'huru' the affliction corresponds to. 'Huru sau' (or 'meo', cat, or 'lakhu', musang, because hairs from all three animals are used. The hairs are chewed with chewed areca nut and piper betel. The symptoms are sores and blisters on the head ('thaba buju'). The chewed mixture is put on the head and down to the neck, and then she blows on it. After that, she 'bhulu ba'o', adat prayer, to ask the disease to disappear. PDF, jpeg-portratit of Weka and Poke. mp4-file in SD1-275.; digital wav file recorded at 48 khz/24 bit II eaf file II photos jpeg in pdf file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/47848.
