Bibliographic Citation:Anastasia Roja, Sophune, Pidhu (Ebbe), Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan; 2015-10-21; Genre: Medicine/huru. Anastasia Roja, kampong Wolo ndopho, Edo (Hedho) domain explains about her 'huru hao'. Recorded by Ebbe 21 Oct -15 with the AT Lavelier mic (turn down the volume). She braids a small box, a sign with curse, containing pieces of 'tithi' grass, 'ndopho', 'raphi', 'hao' bamboo and 'moro bau'. It is hung in the plantation, she mentions coconut tree ('pake huru nio wa'ena mai' "activating" the huru. She cuts the coconut tree lightly). If Roja notices that someone has stolen coconuts, she brings the box to the fire (kitchen or elsewhere) and burns the small box. The thief then gets stomach pain, rolling over in pain in bed. The cure uses 'dopho', 'hao', 'tithi', and ci'i, all chewed with the usual areca nut and piper betel (with lime) (sirih pinang). Here she also speaks to the glowing fire (indicating that it is soon after the previous act), asking it to cure the victim, or first strike and hurt him and then cure him, or get ready to cure because the cure is done by Roja with the usual areca nut and piper betel (with lime) mixture. The mixture is applied to the stomach. This 'huru' is performed in a similar way to Johanis Ware's (Woja) 'huru wae' (huru water). Roja was recorded the first time by Pidu Sophune (Ebbe) 13 Oct 2015. See portrait, pictures.; digital wav file recorded at 44,1 khz/16 bit, eaf file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/47715.
