Description: | Recording # 2.1.2006.1-3b Name of song series various yawulyu Date recorded 2/1/2006 Singers Judy Nampijinpa Granites, Peggy Nampijinpa Brown, Maisy Napurrurla Wayne, Biddy Napaljarri White, Betsy Napangardi Lewis, Lorrain Nungarrayi Granites, Topsy Napaljarri, Maggie Napaljarri Ross, Ruth Napaljarri Oldfield, Ena Napaljarri Spencer, Molly Napurrurla, May Napurrurla, Judy Napangardi Watson, Ruby Nakamarra Collins and Yuni Nampijinpa Martin Recorder Georgia Curran Place recorded Mt Allan community, business ground to south of community area Other people present large group of women preparing for night time ceremony Extra information recorded Two Jungarrayis and one Japanangka were being initiated that night – two from Ti Tree and one from Mt.Allan . This recording was made while the women were painting up for kurdiji that night. They are singing different yawulyu for kurdiji. Each skin group sings yawulyu for different jukurrpa – they are singing the yawulyu for the boys that are going to be initiated. While the women were painting up there were three groups of women singing (different family groups). One was sitting at another shelter nearby (I did not record this as they were too far away and the women I knew were at the other shelter). At the bow shelter where I was sitting there two groups singing and painting up. The main one I recorded were Napaljarris, Nampijinpas, Nakamarras, Napangardis (refer to notes from 2/1/2006 for more details). The other that comes in towards the end were Nakamarras, Napurrurlas, Nungarrayis and Napanangkas. Jeannie explained that there were yulpurru ie. aunties for Jungarrayi including Napaljarri, Nampijinpa, Nakamarra and Napangardi and rdiliwarnu ie. Nungarrayi, Nangala, Napanangka and Napurrurla. We also danced in these moieties on the second night of business (3/1/2006). *Throughout the whole of 2.1.2006.3b there were two groups of women singing. Jeannie has transcribed the louder one which she can here. Normally this would be the Nampijinpa/ Napaljarri group but when they are not singing it would be the Nakamarra/Napurrurla group Transcriptions: See GC1-066_Yawulyu-txt.
