He wanted to get Shorty Jangala Robertson to help him finish these songs. Jeannie also wrote down all the places that it travels through. She said that in the old days when Jangala was young he learnt this song through his FF and uncles. When people came to Yuendumu they all had different yilpinji. Jangala’s family is from the west so he sings the songs from there. Shorty Jangala’s family is from the north so he knows different ones. Now that everyone lives in Yuendumu together they know all of them. Shorty and Thomas finished singing these songs on recording 4.4.2006.1-4 Transcriptions Transcription of Ngapa yilpinji (Recording 22.2.2006.1) 1/ They are at Mikanji. When they are singing the milpirdi clouds are forming and getting ready to rain. 2/ It has started raining. 3/ The rain is falling very heavily 4/ The sky is really dark and it is raining. 5/ It has been raining for about a week and you can’t see the sun. These songs are sung when it is really dry and there’s no food. It brings rain and more food. 6/ All of the creeks are running really fast and getting flooded. This song is used to get the ladies. They come straight away when they hear this song. 7/ A bird called Kirrkalanji is dancing in the sky looking at the rain. At Mirawari near where we went to record this song. This is where he got the rainbow snake. When the rain stops all the hawks went down and got the rainbow snake and took him all the way to Kulpulurnu. They carried it with their claws. 8/ At Black Hill Kamira (which is Kumunjayi) on the otherside of Tanami up north there is a big swamp and it filled up and overflowed. *Jangala stopped singing at Puyurru..
