Description: | Two items relating to the Krahô people and language of Brazil have been identified in the C. F. Voegelin Papers. Both are in Subcollection I. The first is correspondence from Fannie Dunn Quain to linguist Olive A. Shell (1949-1950) in Series I. Correspondence. Quain was the mother of anthropologist Buell Quain, who died in 1939 in Brazil while studying the Krahô. The other is a folder of Krahô material including handwritten and typed notes and drafts relating to Shell's "Grammatical Outline of Kraho" (IJAL, 1952 )in Series V. Research Notes, Subseries V-A: Language Notes. In the publication, Quain was acknowledged as a contributor; it was also noted that the Quain manuscript on which Shell based much of her Krahô work had come to reside at the APS as part of the Franz Boas (now the ACLS) Collection. | |
